Finding out that we could take additional pride in Eugene Bullard, a Black flying ace in World War One, gave me such a swell of pride. So, of course, I had to mention him in my book. Then a couple of years later, the History Channel did a documentary about Black flyers and I watched like a hawk to make sure they mentioned Eugene.
